We have been bringing comfort to Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and surrounding communities since 1922. Our story began when W.E. “Willie” Brown and Guy Johnson opened a small backyard plumbing operation called Brown & Johnson in a building on Second Street Southwest. After they parted ways, we became W.E. Brown and moved to a larger building on the 500 block of West Main Street.

Over the years, we have grown alongside our customers while continuing to build on our tradition of innovation. When Merritt P. “Duke” Martin joined the family firm, we expanded into air and water heating and sheet metal services. We later purchased four lots on Monticello Road in Charlottesville’s Belmont neighborhood and opened a new building that remains part of our offices today. Belmont is still our home.

What began as a small plumbing operation has evolved into a full-service home comfort team. We provide service, repair, and installation for plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical, HVAC, and smart home technology. Our knowledgeable and experienced technicians address problems with plumbing, heating, cooling, and electrical systems, tailoring each system to the customer’s individual needs.

We are proud of our long history of quality and service, but we are not stuck in the past. We continually integrate new technologies and training while improving the ease and efficiency of the customer experience. Our work is about more than repairing broken equipment; we aim to create lasting partnerships and help our customers remain comfortable with both the solutions we provide and the way we provide them.
