Thein Well Company

We have been helping communities access dependable water since 1893, when Eugene Thein drilled his first well by horsepower in Clara City, Minnesota. Today, we remain family-owned, with fourth-generation owners Bob and Mike Thein bringing more than 35 years of water well industry experience each. Fifth-generation family members are also active in our operations, working in project management, drilling, and commercial pump installation and service. Our team includes more than 20 full-time employees, many of whom have served with us for over 20 years and bring extensive experience and training to their specialties.

From our Spicer location and our other Minnesota offices, we construct, install, and maintain wells and water systems of all sizes. Our work includes residential, municipal, irrigation, livestock, and poultry well construction; complete pump design, installation, and service; environmental drilling; and geothermal drilling. We also install vertical geothermal loops for heating and cooling systems and have more than 25 years of experience serving residential and commercial projects. We are licensed to provide services in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska.

Innovation has shaped our work for generations. We pioneered large-diameter well construction using percussion drilling in the early 1900s and adopted down-the-hole, high-pressure air hammer drilling in the 1960s. In later decades, we used television well monitoring to diagnose problems and developed a patented procedure designed to improve efficiency and reduce or eliminate sand-pumping problems in consolidated-formation wells. We also became involved in environmental drilling as concerns about groundwater contamination increased.

Our goal is to provide effective products and services at a reasonable cost while continuing to improve through advanced equipment and technology. Whether a project calls for consultation, a new system design, construction, or service for an existing system, we bring generations of groundwater knowledge and a skilled, experienced team to the work.
