Peterson McNett Drilling

Since 1954, our family has provided residential, irrigation, and geothermal well drilling from Lindsborg, Kansas. Peterson Brothers, including Wally Peterson, originally started the operation, and Logan McNett later purchased the drilling rigs and equipment from his uncle, Mike Peterson of Peterson Irrigation. Today, we bring more than 70 years of combined experience to projects for homeowners, farmers, rural water districts, municipalities, feedlots, and industrial clients. With three drilling rigs, we drill water, public-supply, irrigation, geothermal, industrial, test, and monitoring wells throughout Central Kansas.

Our geothermal drilling experience spans more than 20 years and includes open- and closed-loop systems. We focus exclusively on vertical closed-loop drilling, an approach suitable for nearly all property types and particularly useful where surface space is limited. Depending on site conditions and heating and cooling load requirements, we drill boreholes between 150 and 400 feet deep. A typical vertical borehole is approximately 200 feet deep and five to six inches in diameter. We install a continuous loop of three-quarter-inch to one-inch polyethylene pipe, then seal the borehole with bentonite clay grout to improve heat transfer and protect groundwater. We recommend open-loop systems only where water availability, regulations, and environmental considerations make them viable.

We work directly with HVAC contractors, builders, and property owners to determine the correct borehole depth, spacing, and layout for each project. Our work ranges from a few boreholes for a new home to dozens of wells for a commercial loop field, with an emphasis on accurate drilling, clean job sites, and fast turnaround.
