Owens Companies

We were founded in 1957 by the late Robert H. Owens, a pioneer in the HVAC industry whose approach to preventive maintenance helped set standards that others would follow. Today, we bring more than six decades of experience to the commercial and industrial buildings we serve. From our headquarters at 500 West 92nd Street in Bloomington, we provide complete HVAC and mechanical services throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the Twin Cities metro.

As a fully integrated, single-source mechanical contractor, we specialize in the service, repair, and replacement of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems. Our certified Union technicians work with water- and air-cooled chillers, cooling towers, fluid coolers, commercial and industrial boilers, package and split systems, VRF and VAV systems, central plants, pumps, process piping, and heat exchangers. We also provide complete design/build services, supporting projects from system design and installation through retrofits, ongoing maintenance, and repair.

Preventive maintenance remains central to how we work. We pioneered many practices that are now standard and were among the first in the country to demonstrate how routine maintenance can reduce operating costs, prevent downtime, and extend equipment life. By partnering with building owners, we help calculate and control HVAC-R operating and maintenance costs while supporting the performance, efficiency, and long-term reliability of each facility’s mechanical systems.

We also design, install, retrofit, and service geothermal systems for reliable, energy-efficient heating and cooling. We can help evaluate whether geothermal is appropriate for a building, develop a customized compact system, and maintain and monitor it for peak performance. Whether the need is routine maintenance, equipment replacement, a geothermal project, or a large-scale design/build effort, we bring experienced people and an integrated approach to the work.
