Obsidian Heating and Cooling

We’re a veteran-owned and operated HVAC team serving Des Moines and surrounding Central Iowa communities. Since 2009, we’ve worked with geothermal systems throughout the area, bringing discipline, integrity, and careful attention to detail to every project. With more than 15 years of hands-on heating and cooling experience, we provide residential, commercial, and mobile-home HVAC solutions, from furnace replacement and air-conditioning installation to routine maintenance.

We design and install geothermal heat-pump systems for Des Moines-area properties, accounting for factors such as soil composition, groundwater depth, drainage patterns, and seasonal freeze lines. We evaluate whether a vertical or horizontal ground loop makes sense for the property, then approach loop assembly, heat-exchanger connections, refrigerant charging, pressure testing, and commissioning with care. As a Tempstar Elite Dealer, we also have access to manufacturer performance information that helps us evaluate and optimize system operation.

Our geothermal work includes maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs. We troubleshoot loop leaks, refrigerant-charge issues, compressor faults, thermostat misconfiguration, and electrical failures using specialized diagnostic equipment rather than relying on guesswork or replacing parts unnecessarily. During maintenance, we complete efficiency checks, conduct pressure testing, record measurements, and document system performance so our customers have a useful history of their equipment’s condition.

We believe our customers should understand their choices before work begins. We explain available options and their advantages and disadvantages in plain language, answer questions, and make sure our customers are comfortable with the proposed work. From the first phone call through the final walkthrough, our approach is honest, straightforward, and accountable.
