McPhail Associates, LLC

Since 1976, we have provided geotechnical engineering services to architects, owners, contractors, institutions, and developers. Over time, we have expanded our services to include geoenvironmental work and geo-exchange systems, also known as geothermal. We continue to follow the vision established by our founder, Robert E. McPhail, by approaching projects with our clients’ interests and plans in mind.

Our engineering services draw on experience in subsurface exploration, geotechnical analysis, foundation design, geoenvironmental site evaluation and remediation, and geo-exchange system design. We also provide construction monitoring, geotechnical instrumentation, and contractor support. Our contractor support services include the design of temporary and permanent excavation support systems, pile and specialty foundations, and construction dewatering systems. Through these capabilities, we work with project teams across multiple stages of site evaluation, design, and construction.

Our professional staff have backgrounds in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, and geology. We collaborate within our team and with architects, engineers, and contractors toward shared project goals. Our leadership includes managing principals who oversee business operations and provide executive-level project management, supported by a principal and associate principals with experience in subsurface exploration, geotechnical analysis and design, and geoenvironmental evaluation and remediation. We also maintain in-house knowledge-sharing sessions that support collaboration across our range of technical disciplines.
