James River Air Conditioning Co.

We’ve served Richmond and central Virginia since 1967, when Hugh E. Joyce founded our organization as Joyce Air. What began as a one-person operation—with Hugh handling sales, installation, and day-to-day management—grew and diversified during the 1970s. After adopting the James River Air Conditioning Co. name, we continued building around a principle that still guides us: skilled people are our most valuable asset. We pair the capabilities of a growing organization with the warmth, dedication, and personal approach of local ownership.

For homeowners, we repair and install heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, and appliance systems. Our home comfort team works with air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, and indoor air quality equipment. We also provide electrical and plumbing services, including wiring, upgrades, water heaters, backflow preventers, and medical gas piping.

For businesses, we provide service, replacement, repair, preventive maintenance, and construction solutions. Our commercial team handles systems ranging from air conditioners, heat pumps, and boilers to chillers, cooling towers, VAV and duct systems, ventilation equipment, economizers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and air cleaners. We also work with building automation, electrical and electronic controls, and pneumatic controls. Preventive maintenance options range from basic maintenance to full-coverage plans that include repair parts and labor. Through our New Construction Division, we work with area general contractors to design and install custom HVAC systems for larger commercial projects. Our work extends throughout central Virginia and surrounding areas, including Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, Petersburg, Williamsburg, and Newport News.
