Our roots in Vergennes reach back to 1885, when Robert Hudson opened a shop at the location where we continue to operate today. The original R. Hudson shop sold stoves and tinware, and our family has remained involved throughout its history. In 1909, Robert’s nephews, John W. Ryan and David E. Ryan, formed a partnership, gave us the J.W. & D.E. Ryan name, and began the transition to full-service plumbing and heating. Later generations continued that work: Ralph W. Ryan and Robert J. Ryan joined the partnership in 1946, and Robert’s son, Timothy C. Ryan, joined us in 1974, purchased the operation in 1979, and continues to manage it today.

As a fourth-generation, family-owned team, we provide plumbing, heating, cooling, and light commercial services. Our work also includes solar and geothermal applications, tankless and heat pump water heaters, and kitchen and bathroom updates. We offer in-home analysis and free professional estimates to help customers understand their options before moving ahead with a project. We also support our installations through a warranty and service program.

We believe long-term experience and continued learning both matter. Members of our installation team average more than 14 years of experience, and we emphasize ongoing education and training as technology evolves. Our longstanding team includes Project Manager Robert Fisher, who has worked with us since 1974; Operations Manager Dennis Senesac, who joined us in 1979; and Service Manager John Emerson, who has been with us since 1981.

Most of all, we are grateful to the community that has supported generations of our family and staff. We are proud to continue serving customers from the same Vergennes location where our story began while adapting our services as the trade and its technologies continue to change.
