Based in Oakland, Iowa, we are Mid America Drilling Corporation. We trace our roots to 1956, when John and Fred started drilling water wells part time in western Iowa to help support the family farm. More than 50 wells were drilled during that first year, and the operation grew to include additional generations of our family. Later generations include Fred and his brothers, John and Paul, as well as their sons Grant, Wesley, Andy, and Cale. Today, our team includes more than 20 people, and our drilling capabilities have expanded to include geothermal well fields, caisson foundations, cell tower bases, elevator shafts, and other specialty drilling requested by our customers. We actively work in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Illinois.

We have been involved with geothermal technology since 1979, specializing in the design and installation of well fields for ground-source heat pump systems. Our experience includes residential retrofits as well as large projects for schools, colleges, medical facilities, military bases, and other public and private facilities. We have contributed to projects at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska; Microsoft in Fargo, North Dakota; Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas; and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Our project history includes a 96-hole loop field at Grand Island Community College, with each loop hole drilled to 305 feet, an Isco vault, and six-inch pipe running to the building. For Goodrich Elementary in Lincoln, Nebraska, we installed 240 loop holes at 335 feet each, totaling more than 15 miles of drilling. At College Road Elementary in Council Bluffs, we installed 132 loops at 305 feet while working through hard limestone and chert, making it one of our most challenging drilling projects. The new Ankeny High School required 720 bores, representing approximately 28 miles of drilling.
