Heartland Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing

Our roots in Murphysboro go back to 1946, when Norman A. Williams returned from service in the U.S. Navy during World War II and founded Norman Williams Refrigeration. For 25 years, we operated as a small, family-owned sales and service operation in downtown Murphysboro. We later became Williams Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc. After attending Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Norman’s son, Ted Williams, joined us in 1972. As residential and commercial air conditioning grew, we grew with it. In 1985, we moved our offices and sheet metal shops to their current locations, and Ted became President and CEO following Norman’s retirement.

Our commercial division became Heartland Mechanical Contractors, Inc. in 1999. In 2013, Williams Air Conditioning and Heating was brought back together with Heartland Mechanical Contractors and rebranded as Heartland Heating & Air Conditioning. Our next chapter began after JW and his wife, Jaclyn, started Huppert Plumbing in March 2020. Ted recognized JW’s potential to carry the Heartland legacy forward, and their shared vision led to the establishment of Heartland Heating, Air, and Plumbing in January 2021.

Today, we provide residential and light commercial heating, cooling, and plumbing services. Our certified, insured, and highly trained HVAC technicians and plumbers handle service, repairs, maintenance, and equipment installation from start to finish. Our HVAC capabilities include furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, geothermal systems, air handlers, and ductless heaters. We have installed geothermal systems of many sizes and types for single-family homes, small businesses, community schools, and large corporations. Each new geothermal project begins with an assessment of the home and surrounding land, and we provide free estimates while answering questions about the system and any rebates for which a customer may qualify.

After more than 70 years of serving Murphysboro and the Southern Illinois region, we remain committed to the workmanship, honesty, integrity, and trusted service on which our reputation has been built.
