Haley's Metal Shop, Inc.

We are a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated metal shop rooted at 539 Elm Street in Biddeford, Maine. Our story began in 1917, when skilled tinsmith Robert Jordan moved his family to Biddeford and opened a small shop. His copper work ranged from tea kettles to the cross that still stands atop Biddeford’s largest Catholic church. In the late 1920s, Robert welcomed his son-in-law, Joe Haley, as an apprentice, and together they formed Jordan and Haley. Through the Depression, World War II, and the years that followed, our work grew from custom metalwork to include heating systems throughout the local area.

By the 1950s, Joe’s son Tom had joined the family operation after working for Lennox Industries in Syracuse, New York. Joe and Tom adopted the Haley’s Metal Shop name, moved into a larger manufacturing facility outside town, and expanded into air conditioning. The next generation followed: Tom’s daughter Joyce joined in 1979, and his son Brian returned to Maine in 1983 after working for York Industries in Houston. Brian became a licensed professional engineer in Maine and New Hampshire and participated more extensively in design-build projects, while Joyce strengthened our financial and management operations. Brian’s son Matthew joined us in 2010, becoming the fifth generation of the family in our shop. Today, Brian and Matt carry that tradition forward with our talented staff.

We bring tradition and innovation together in every project. Our work includes custom metal fabrication, industrial sheet metal solutions, commercial and industrial ventilation systems, indoor air quality, heating and air-conditioning service and installation, heat pumps, and geothermal heat pumps. We also maintain a dedicated commercial HVAC division, designing and installing systems tailored to each business with comfort, efficiency, and long-term value in mind. Total Comfort Services is our home-service division, where we apply the same honest, fair, and experienced approach. Across our work, we remain committed to superior craftsmanship, attentive service, nuanced solutions, and useful technological advances as we continue serving the hardworking people of Maine and New England.
