Our story began with Kenneth Ferrell, who grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. After high school, he learned the heating and air trade while working alongside his father, Herb, in the family’s Carrier HVAC operation. Kenneth met Martha in Daytona Beach in 1976, and they moved to her home state of Kentucky in 1980. They settled in Waddy and started Ferrell’s Air Conditioning & Heating from their home, with Kenneth handling service calls while Martha answered the phones and kept the work organized.

As their daughters Magen, Kerri, and Lindsey arrived and our customer base expanded, we outgrew the house. Kenneth hired his first crew and continued building the family operation known throughout Shelby County today. In 2005, we purchased and renovated the Old Henry Clay School in Clay Village as our permanent home. The building carried special meaning for Martha, who had once attended school and taught there. After 45 years, Kenneth set down his tool bag, and the second generation continued his work through daughter Kerri Finke and her husband, Matt. We still carry forward the Ferrell family’s honest, old-school approach: rather than saying no, we work to find a way.

That approach shapes how we care for every heating, cooling, indoor air quality, and geothermal system. We diagnose and repair what is actually wrong before discussing replacement, without big-box sales quotas or pressure. For geothermal systems, we provide repairs, maintenance, and new installations. Our diagnostic process includes checking refrigerant levels and pressures, electrically testing major components, assessing ground-loop integrity, and measuring airflow so we can identify the root cause instead of simply treating symptoms. We also handle regular clean-and-check services and full system replacements throughout Shelbyville and more than 28 surrounding communities within a 30-mile service radius.

We are a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, Carrier’s highest dealer designation. In 2024, Kenneth was inducted into the Carrier Dealer Hall of Fame in recognition of his decades of loyalty to Carrier and service to the HVAC industry.
