Blackie's Heating & Cooling

Our roots go back to 1926, when William B. Murray founded Automatic Engineering Co. After coming to Danville to sell railroad companies a piece of train equipment he had invented, Murray chose to remain in the area and establish a sheet metal production operation serving residential and commercial needs. That work led to ductwork, boiler systems, gravity air systems, and coal-burning heating systems. In 1939, W.B. “Blackie” Black married Murray’s daughter and joined the operation. As new heating and air-conditioning technologies were added, customers increasingly called us “Blackie’s,” and the name became part of our identity.

Today, we remain a four-generation family operation led by Rob Black, the founder’s great-grandson. Our team brings a combined 200 years of residential mechanical systems expertise, along with deep roots in the Danville and Champaign area. We provide air-conditioning repair, service, and installation in Tilton, Danville, Westville, Oakwood, Georgetown, and Catlin. We service all makes and models, offer fair and upfront pricing, and provide free estimates for new equipment installations. Our 24-hour emergency service is available when heating or cooling problems cannot wait.

We also perform energy audits to identify duct leakage, insulation gaps, and equipment-sizing issues. By evaluating the home as a complete system, we can determine whether sealing improvements and properly matched equipment may perform better than an oversized unit. Our geothermal services include installation, maintenance, repair, site evaluations, loop-pressure checks, heat-pump inspections, and performance optimization. We have worked with residential geothermal systems since the technology became available, serving communities including Tilton, Danville, Westville, Oakwood, Georgetown, Catlin, Hegeler, Ogden, Fairmount, and Bismarck. Above all, we remain committed to our customers’ satisfaction and to continuing the history of service that has connected our family with the community for four generations.
